Kendra's Story

She graduated from Nursing school with the notion that she was the modern-day “Florence Nightingale,” prepared to save the world. However, she graduated during the largest nursing glut in recorded history. Despite the competition, she was determined to work as a nurse and eventually landed her dream job. For five years, she worked in the ICU, caring for adults and children with cardiac conditions and trauma. She loved her job and excelled at it. Over time, she began to see hospital care differently, noticing less time for patient interaction and more time dedicated to paperwork and reports.

Her "Aha" moment came when she was caring for a newly admitted gentleman with unexplained chest pain, his third admission for the same complaint. As she was recording his orders, she also received his discharge papers. There was no counseling offered, no resolution to his pain, just a prescription for reflux. This experience made her realize there had to be a better way to maintain health than showing up at a hospital in extreme pain.

Shortly after this epiphany, she discovered the beauty of Naturopathic Medicine. By tuning into the body and being mindful of food and exercise, she believed that each person could heal themselves with the power within them. This "discovery" felt like destiny, as her maternal grandmother had always lived her life this way, using food as medicine and instilling this belief in her granddaughter.

After graduating from naturopathic school, she met and married her husband and decided to open a practice together. However, their joy was marred by the loss of two pregnancies, leading to a diagnosis of MTHFR, a condition she also treated patients for. Determined to heal herself, she applied her knowledge and shortly after, gave birth to her daughter at home, with her husband's assistance.

Three years later, their son was born at home on his due date in a peaceful water birth. However, her health began to decline after his birth. Despite consulting experts and undergoing numerous tests, she struggled to find a solution. Eventually, she discovered she had a severe leaky gut and an allergy to an enzyme used in many supplements she was taking.

She embarked on a healing journey focused on an anti-inflammatory diet, cooking whole foods and eliminating processed foods. This led to the publication of her first cookbook. She has since transitioned to a Paleo diet and continues to prioritize her health, teaching her children the importance of food as medicine. Now, she lectures on this subject, sharing her story and knowledge to help others find their path to health.
